Cozy Robe Syndrome

Robes are a great cover which can lead to Cozy Robe Syndrome.

My robe is so soft and fleecy I could live in it all day. It keeps me so warm through the winter that some days I don’t want to take it off. And it’s deep pockets can hold everything I need. blanket-582083_1920Robes can flow all the way to the floor if we buy just the right one, and it hides us so well no one could guess what’s underneath.

Sometimes we hide behind life’s circumstances or a bad hand dealt us like hiding in a robe all day. It feels safe, comfortable, even just right. But what we perceive as a comfort and escape could be actually stifling us and our walk with the Lord. It could be covering up our fears and unresolved issues. God said it best:

Isaiah 41:10   Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee…

My robe can gets stains, too. And those stains become permanent when I leave them too long and don’t wash it. Isn’t life like that?spillage-308942_1280 If you leave an issue unresolved, it begins to grow the stain of bitterness and anger. And like that stain the damage can become permanent if we don’t treat it with a stain remover: Forgiveness.

But there are times to cozy down in our robes. Sometimes we need a brief moment to gather our senses and hide under God’s arm for a bit, to pray and meditate and gather strength.

Psalms 17:8 …hide me under the shadow of thy wings…

Life lived in a robe at the right times can be amazing , but don’t get Cozy Robe Syndrome. Let’s pull those robes off and get dressed for the Lord, He will renew us and give us the strength to face what lies ahead.

Do you ever have times you hide in your robe? Tell me your thoughts below.

  1. Yes Erin! I do get cozy robe Syndrome! Great post

  2. I don’t have a cozy robe anymore. I am thinking of investing in one, though. Too many tears have passed since I hunkered down in my old, blue cloth robe. This was a good reminder, and I’m reinspired! 🙂

    1. I love the fleece ones best. Do you prefer a lighter one?

  3. Love my cozy robes! I think this might be a writerly syndrome! Spring is coming and I’ll have to leave my cozy robe behind! Thanks for the post, Erin! Blessings!
