Dumpster Diving for Coupons

Dumpster diving for coupons is so fun.

Coupons can be found in more ways than buying newspapers. All towns have ‘paper only’ dumpsters in recycle areas of their landfill  or recycle centers. It’s a free country and as long as that bin isn’t on private property, you can jump right in and start your search for coupon inserts.

Even better. Send your kids in to do it.

My sister and I have put our kids in the dumpsters to look through the piles of paper. They’re trained to know what to look for. You’d be surprised how many stacks we found in one dive. It was enough to last us weeks of cutting out coupons for great deals.

In the next county, the landfill is even more organized. They put all their recycle paper in the trailer of an eighteen wheeler. It’s much easier to look through the hoards of papers there. All we need is a good light and a box to set all the coupons in. We start in the front and work our way back until the coupon inserts start getting outdated. Then we stop. And we usually come home with too many to even cut out.

It’s all free when you dumpster dive.

It’s clean. There’s nothing but paper in there.

It’s hilarious. You should see the look on people’s faces when we pop up as they’re about to throw something away.

Why would anyone want to miss an opportunity like this?

Have you ever dumpster dived?
