Coupon Madness

I have a love hate relationship with couponing. It’s a part of my being, my inner fiber now that I’m a pro, and I don’t ever plan on giving it up. By pro, I use the term in a very loose manner, I do not claim to know it all or even half as much as any other. I just know what works for me.

I started almost three years ago in hopes I’d start saving money.  I have lots of kids, and they’re all teens now. A fair sized group of friends and family hang out at my house, too.  It gets expensive to feed them all.

It started with the show on couponing. I’m sure you know which one I’m talking about so I don’t need to name it. I watched in wander and disbelief (note to self: still disbelief). They were doing the impossible and I had to try it.

And I did. I bought all the stuff:

  • The infamous binder that sets you apart immediately from other shoppers
  • The baseball card holders for the coupons
  • File cabinets and folders
  • The subscription to 14 Sunday papers
  • A cutting board
  • Fingertip moistener
  • The all important Scissors that must be very sharp

I was ready. I didn’t have a clue what I was getting myself into at that point. It was hard. I lost money. I even yelled at a couple cashiers (shame, shame). But, then slowly I got the concept, figured out the best organization to make it all work.

I’d never put myself in the crazy couponing person category, although lots of people shake their head at me in the store. I ignore the looks and comments. I’m not doing it for onlookers. I do it to take care of my family.

It’s hard work, there’s no two ways about it.

Have you ever considered couponing?

  1. I used to be good about cutting coupons and taking them to the store, but I can’t even manage to do that anymore!!! If I do remember to clip them, they stay at home. It’s so annoying! I buy the same few products all the time, so I probably should look online to see if I can just print coupons.

    1. There are great websites that you can print coupons from like redplum.com, but you can only print two of each coupon per computer in your home. And you don’t have to print them in color. Of course, you can print an innumerable amount of different coupons. Hope that helps a little.

      1. I want to show my affection for your kindness for those people that require help on in this matter. Your personal dedication to getting the message up and down appears to be surigpsinrly functional and have really enabled ladies like me to achieve their aims. Your entire interesting useful information denotes a lot to me and especially to my fellow workers. Best wishes; from everyone of us.

  2. I began using coupons this month. I’ve wasted time, ink and paper. Sometimes, I can’t find the product at any of three stores. It’s pretty irritating. I’ve only saved six dollars this month, but I’ve spent three or more hours looking for coupons, and sometimes jumping through hoops to qualify for good ones. Is it really worth it?

    1. If you start with the sales papers and circle the items you want then look for the coupons online, it should limit wasted time. Try to go to places where you can get gas points for the items you’re purchasing in addition to the coupons. There’s where the real money’s saved. I’m going to be spending a few weeks on this subject if you want to see some tips and helps.

      1. Yes, I do want to read your tips, thank you! I have never in my life heard of gas points. I’m going to Google it now.
